Need to spice up your outreach event? Show the “This Is Engineering” video!
I just watched it (it’s 4.5 minutes long), and it’s pretty cool! And targeted towards women! It has a bunch of engineering students from the University of Central Florida talking about what an engineer is and what they do. It’d be good for middle school or high school students, to give them an idea of what engineering is before you start your outreach event.
The video is based on a report from the National Academy of Engineering (Changing the Conversation: Messages for Improving Public Understanding of Engineering, 2008). It was created by the Women’s Research Center at the University of Central Florida.
Check it out!
The website also comes with a bunch of resources–examples of engineering projects, other websites, and books/games/movies that teach kids about engineering.
