Collegiate Director’s Letter

In this month’s All Together, BOD Collegiate Director Allison put together her top reasons for attending regional conference.  Don’t forgot to register for conference and check out the all  of the other great articles in this month’s All Together.

From Allison:

First, congratulations to all of the seniors and graduate students who graduated this past semester/quarter. Best of luck on your new adventures, and I hope to see your continued involvement in SWE as a professional member. Second, I’m so excited for all of the upcoming regional conferences. If you haven’t done so already, I highly encourage you to register for your regional conference as soon as possible before all spots fill.

My top three reasons why the regional conferences are so valuable:

1) Mentoring:
This conference is a wonderful time to find a mentor (both a collegiate and professional) who you can meet with face-to-face during the many in-person events. One of the most valuable resources in SWE is its people. Take full advantage!

2) Collegiate/Professional Activities: Many regions have fantastic collegiate/professional interaction events during the conference where you can learn why it is important to be a professional member along with what SWE has provided current professional members to help advance their careers. You can also see what it’s like to be an engineer outside of the textbooks, homework and exams.

3) Career Fair: The career fairs at the regional conferences tend to feature small, local organizations. If you are looking for a position, be sure to update your resume, print plenty of copies and prep for an interview ahead of time.

I know you will enjoy your time at your regional conference, and I want to hear all about your experience.
