This semester, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign section decided to take a stand for a cleaner environment and has signed up for the “Adopt-a-Highway” program. They chose an area called “Green Street,” commonly known for its variety of eating and drinking establishments. It is a road right on campus traveled by hundreds (if not thousands) of students each day, and while there is not always a lot of litter regularly, there certainly can be after some holidays. Those involved with setting up this program saw this as an excellent way to give back to our community and to beautify campus, but also as a great way for different committees to bond over picking up trash together. A sign will soon hang on both ends of our section announcing the adoption by the Society of Women Engineers. Talk about positive representation!
