I hope your fall semester is off to a great start! What are you doing to welcome new members to your SWE section this year? I love the idea of mentorship programs as a way to connect SWE members with each other. Mentors can help new members of your school’s community feel at ease, develop leadership skills and inform career decisions. They are a great way to meet new people and see diverse perspectives. Many SWE sections already have fantastic mentorship programs that connect underclassmen, upperclassmen, graduate students, professors and professional members. Finding mentors and making new connections is also an important part of the theme for FY14, Make Connections. Make History.
Attending WE13 is a good opportunity to start making connections and making history. Whether this would be your first SWE conference or you’ve been many times before, I encourage you to sign up. At WE13, you will connect with academic and industry career resources, attend leadership and professional development workshops, and meet thousands of incredible women across engineering disciplines. SWE conferences are an inspiring experience that will lend new energy to your studies, your career and your SWE section.
Have a great semester and I hope to see you in Baltimore at WE13. As always, feel free to contact me with any suggestions or questions at firstname.lastname@example.org.
