Get to Know Your RCR- Elia!

Elia Zanella is a junior studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities planning to graduate in spring of 2017.

Elia has been involved in her SWE section since the minute she stepped on campus. She has held positions such as Recruitment and Retention Director (FY14), Lead Outreach Director (FY15), Region H Collegiate Membership Coordinator (FY15), and SWE Future Leader (FY15). For FY16, Elia will serve as the Vice President of University of Minnesota section and Region H Collegiate Representative. Her favorite thing about her SWE section is the two large outreach events that bring 400+ students and their families to the University for a day of activities, speakers, and lunch. She also loves working with SWE-MN for various outreach events. This year she is most looking forward to attending WE16 and hoping to meet a lot of amazing women like she did at WE15!

This past summer, Elia was an Engineering Intern at General Electric at their Water and Process Technologies Manufacturing Plant in Minnetonka, MN. She will continue part time throughout the next school year and plans on interning next summer in the same location. Through her internship, Elia has found her love for the manufacturing floor and hopes to pursue a full-time job in manufacturing.

In her free time, Elia enjoys spending time with her family and exploring the outdoors. She has run 4 half marathons and is currently training for the Twin Cities Ultra Looney Challenge in October, which consists of a 5K and 10K on Saturday and a marathon on Sunday. Elia hopes to do the Dopey Challenge in Disney World before she graduates, which entails 4 races (5K, 10K, half-marathon, and marathon) in 4 days!
